This shouldn’t come as a shocker, but more than 1,000 fans have spoken and the Ottawa Senators missing the playoffs for the seventh straight spring with a 37-41-4 record was a huge disappointment.

That was the result of a round of questions we did after the club wrapped up its season with a victory over the Boston Bruins on April 16. The Senators will have the seventh-best odds at the No. 1 pick overall in the 2024 draft lottery set for May 7.
While Toronto Marlies’ head coach John Gruden is viewed as a top candidate for the club’s vacant job, people want to see someone with experience behind the bench. More than 60 per cent of respondents are hopeful the club will hire former St. Louis Blues’ bench boss Craig Berube.
Just this week, Postmedia reported the club has either sought permission or will sit down with Berube about the vacant post. The belief is former Minny coach Dean Evason and former Los Angeles coach Todd MacLellan have both been interviewed.

Naturally, people want to see change and there was a split between those that want a right-shot defenceman and those who believe the club needs to get a new goaltender after Joonas Korpisalo failed to live up to expectations after signing a five-year, $20 million U.S. deal in the summer.
Though many believe defenceman Jakob Chychrun will be traded in the off-season, if the fans had their choice then Thomas Chabot would be given his walking papers by Steve Staios, the club’s president of hockey operations and general manager.
